I'm always looking for things that are
1. CHEAP
2. Durable ( that can take the abuse of balls bouncing, cars ridding and hammers hitting )...yes, I'm talking about my boys!
3. Functional
Lately, I've found lots of odd items that didn't meet the ideal or original purpose for it but it was all of the 3 above so I knew I could fit it in somehow.
If the furniture wasn't shabby enough-I would sand paper it
If the item wasn't the right color- I would paint it!
Here are some ideas and some things I'M LOVING right now to get your wheels turning. You might have kids and you might not but I think these will get you thinking outside the box for any of those rooms that you might have that need a pick me up!
STORAGE
Vintage or new candy jars. You can find these at the thrift store for a couple bucks each or new at someplace like Target or Walmart for under 5. I currently have a couple of these outside in my art room with lace and ribbon in them. I'm planning on getting some of these and painting them to coordinate with Christians Cowboy room and put in lots art supplies!

I love these Chicken Coops! You can get these free off craigslist sometimes and find them for near to nothing. Some sanding and some paint can really personalize them to any area in your home!

Vintage window organizer. I see people giving vintage windows away all the time. I've never seen anyone make one of these before but what a great idea?!!!!

I'm really into vintage picnic baskets, trunks and suitcases right now and in fact have a couple in the house used as side tables and one at the foot of Christian's bed. It's an unexpected piece of furniture that is very functional and beautiful. Christian has a red one that is very chippy at the end of his bed that goes perfect with his cowboy theme. I also use it to store some toys in ! using them as nightstands like the one below is such a great idea also!

I love these for a rustic storage look. Would be perfect to use outside or in a pantry, sewing room, playroom, mudroom whatever! You could even spray paint them a color for added fun!

Something I think that every room needs (modern, classic or vintage) is a couple classic toys or something that is familiar. It adds a little bit of a whimsical touch and makes people feel more comfortable!

I love this table lamp. It's kinda one of those things :don't judge the book by its cover. I'm sure the original color and lampshade wasn't too pretty but a little bit of paint and imagination can make anything beautiful!

I love the big red letters READ over the bed. I'm into letters and a wall full of framed pictures or items. Its a fantastic way to draw the eye and intrest. Im planning on putting a vintage framed puzzle of a horse on Christian's wall with the letter H next to it, framed spurs, vintage cowboy games etc. Just using different materials (instead of everything being just pictures) it really has made his room a lot of fun!

How fun are these vintage toys? I love using the chippy toys in my kids rooms because 1. I know they sell easy after because they are collectable and they are very whimsical.
