Make your Faux Cakes N Eat them too!

I thought I would post how to make these little cupcakes and cake slices. Its a fun and easy craft you could easily make with your kids. I was also thinking about making mini cupcake ornaments. How fun would that be? Pearly strings and bright vintage glass ornaments and then these cupcakes on your Christmas tree. Eeeekkk! So cute

Supplies:
Styrofoam Ball 3'' (makes one cupcake) Styrofoam Disc 7 1/2 x 1 1/4 (makes 4 slices of cake) Acrylic Spackle Compound Acrylic paint (white, brown yellow) Paper Dollies Ribbon roses 30-gauge silver wire Small place card (optional) Assorted trims (this is for the cupcakes) Paper cupcake liner Plastic birthday candle holder 3/8'' wooden dowel Gold Foil, 2'' square (for flame if you are going to do candle ) Serrated Knife Old Candle Pencil Ruler Wooden Skewers Small disposable Container Spatula Wire cutters Needle-nose pliers White Craft Glue

Cupcake Directions:
  1. Rub the old candle on the edge of the knife blade. Take the 3'' ball and shape it into a cupcake by cutting a 3/8'' slice from the bottom. Now with your pencil, draw a groove around circumference of ball, 1 1/4'' up from flat bottom. Cut 1/4'' slices of foam from the circumference until ball fits snugly in paper cupcake liner. Smooth any ruff edges by rubbing with the sides of your pencil.

  2. Glue your cupcake into your cupcake liner.

  3. Take 1/2 cup of spackle compound to your disposable container. Add water and mix until mixture is the consistency of smooth whip cream. Add some color to the mixture to resemble the frosting. Spread this mixture with your spatula or butter knife onto your cupcake. Make sure to make it realistic!

  4. Now embellish it with ribbons or flowers. Even add some glitter!

  5. Glue cupcake onto doily.

  6. Paint wooden dowels the desired colors for a "birthday candle".

  7. Cut an 8'' length of wire. Form a loose spiral in one end . Press straight end of wire into center top of cupcake. Now place a name card.
Cake Slices:

  1. Using your knife, cut your foam disc into 8 equal pie-shape sizes.
  2. Insert a wooden skewer into slices if you want to help make the painting process easier.
  3. Now make the Spackle to resemble the frosting. Spread
  4. You can now Press a second slice on the bottom of your first but first frost the middle of it so it looks like the cake was a layered cake.
